Consider hardwood floors in your home

There are many reasons to love hardwood floors. Natural colors, beautiful grain, and perfectly imperfect marks that speak to the character and uniqueness of each board, just to name a few. However, due to our concrete floors and the high humidity in our area, solid wood floors are not recommended.

Engineered hardwood flooring makes sense

Engineered hardwood floors represent the beauty and variety already found in nature using a wide range of hardwood species: maple, oak, hickory, walnut, pine, birch, and cherry. They look identical to solid wood on the surface since it uses a thin layer of genuine hardwood bonded over a premium plywood core. You’ll get a less expensive product without sacrificing the beauty, durability and performance of solid wood floors.

We offer a variety of shades and colors that will give your home a distinct and unique character while achieving a clean and consistent look throughout. Regardless of the style you choose, engineered hardwood flooring can be the perfect foundation of a room’s design. Visit any one of our showroom location floors in the Houston area to see how they look when installed.

Once you decide if light or darker color hardwood is right for you we will set up a time to come to your home for a professional, accurate measure. Our closed orders mean you’ll never be surprised with additional charges if you need more materials to finish the installation. With a Lifetime Installation Warranty that covers everything, you can rest assured your investment in new flooring will be protected.

The standard test for wood hardness is called the Janka test. The higher the rating the harder the wood is to dent. Most stores use solid wood Janka ratings instead of testing the actual engineered wood that they are selling and these are never correct. To increase profitability and be more competitive, they use a softer wood in the core which creates a floor easier to dent or scratch.

At Floors for Living we’re committed to giving you the information you need to make the best decision on flooring for your home. We compare our engineered wood floors to the box stores and post the Janka ratings on everything we sell. Our tests have shown that the same solid hickory wood (1820 rating) can test out to be really soft (Heritage Hickory from Home Depot – 849 rating) or really hard (Epic Plus from Shaw – 2584 rating) depending on the core that is used.
